The fundamental purpose and core values of Sigma Chi, founded at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1855, are friendship, justice and learning. Our mission is to develop values-based leaders committed to the betterment of character, campus and community.

The Fraternity best serves that purpose by developing, implementing and monitoring programs that foster leadership, build character and promote positive relationship skills, which in turn enable its members to become productive and caring participants in their families, colleges and communities.

Whitman College’s Gamma Epsilon chapter of Sigma Chi was founded on campus in 1923.
