Bike Shop
Explore on Two Wheels
The Outdoor Program Bike Shop offers reasonably priced bike maintenance and repairs, mountain bikes for rent, and a small variety of retail merchandise, including bike tubes, lights, locks and bags.
The OP Bike Shop location is directly behind Boyer House, by the small parking lot on the corner of Boyer Avenue and Marcus Street. Heading west (downtown) on Boyer Avenue, pass Reid Campus Center, and take the third left into the parking lot and look for Bike Shop signs to direct you.
Bike Shop Hours
The Bike Shop is currently closed for the winter season. We will update here when we reopen in the spring, which will be in early March.
The OP Rental Shop is open and has a small variety of retail merchandise available including bike tubes, lights, chain lube, horns, bells, and locks.

Abandoned Bike Repurposing Program
Since 2012, the OP Bike Shop has turned more than 220 broken and forgotten bikes into useful and appreciated bikes again.
We regularly receive bikes from Campus Security that have been abandoned on campus.* Bikes that have been left locked up for long periods of time without being moved, locked inappropriately for a long period, or are clearly abandoned are put into storage for eight months. If no one claims them after 8 months, they are handed over to the Bike Shop to be restored to functional condition, harvested for parts, or taken to a local recycling center, in that order. We strive to repurpose as many bikes and bike parts as we reasonably can.
The bikes we are able to make functional are taken to the OP Rental Shop to be sold. We strive to make prices very reasonable! Our goal is to make unused bikes useful again, and provide a needed service to Whitman students, faculty, staff and the community. If you have a bike that you would like to donate to the OP Bike Shop we’d be happy to take it at any time during the year. (Sorry, we do not purchase bikes.)
*If you think your bike may have been stolen or misplaced, contact Campus Security at 509-527-5777.
Semester Bike Rental Program
We began a small pilot program for semester or summer length bike rentals with 3 bikes in Fall of 2021. As of summer 2022, we now have 7 bikes available for summer or semester rental for $50. These are either cruiser or mountain bikes with basic front suspension, meant to help students get around campus and around town. Stop by or call the Rental Shop to inquire about the semester or summer rental bikes or check on availability.
