The outdoors are for everyone! The BIPOC Outdoor Club was founded by students to provide a safe and supportive community for students of color to explore the mountains, forests, lakes and rivers surrounding Whitman.
While forming new friendships, members can take part in activities like camping, hiking, kayaking and rock climbing. As part of their commitment to accessibility, the BIPOC Outdoor Club covers participation costs and ensures that activities are appropriate for students whether they are skilled adventurers or heading out for a first time experience.
The Cooking & Baking Club brings Whitties together to get creative in the kitchen and whip up delicious dishes. They provide everything you need—ingredients, cookware and space—using campus kitchens such as in Lyman House and Cleveland Commons.
The Cooking & Baking Club values the close-knit Whitman community and often finds fun collaborations with other student groups like the Dracula Club and the Community Service House. They also team up with Bon Appétit to learn techniques and new dishes from expert chefs!
The Whitman Equestrian Club brings together horse enthusiasts of all experience levels, offering opportunities to connect with the local equestrian community and spend time with horses. Whether you're a seasoned rider or just curious, this club welcomes all Whitties who share a love for these amazing animals.
In addition to barn excursions and bringing ponies to visit campus, the Whitman Equestrian Club volunteers with a local therapeutic riding non-profit organization. It’s the perfect way for students to get hands-on experience with horses while giving back to the Walla Walla community!
Did you know the world’s first trading card game, Magic: The Gathering (MTG), has roots at Whitman? The game’s creator, Richard Garfield, was a visiting Mathematics professor here when the game launched in 1993.
Today, Whitties still have a special connection with the game through the MTG Club. The club brings students together to learn, play and celebrate the iconic game. A big goal for the club is to make MTG accessible to everyone—they provide decks for anyone to use so everyone can join the fun!
Just a short walk from campus, the Organic Garden is a hidden gem bursting with fresh produce, herbs and even a small flock of friendly chickens! This student-run space is all about sustainability, community and hands-on learning, whether you want to grow your own food or just relax in a peaceful green space.
The Organic Garden Club keeps the garden thriving while hosting casual, low-commitment events for all students—no green thumb required! They also partner with Bon Appétit to cook up delicious meals using fresh ingredients straight from the garden and turn campus food scraps into compost, contributing to Whitman’s sustainability efforts.
Whitman Tap Club was founded when two students bonded over their love of tap. They wanted to share that passion with the rest of campus and make new friends along the way.
They have weekly dance session that have become a place where anyone—including professors—come to learn, move and create together. Whether you’re a tap enthusiast or just trying it for the first time, Whitman Tap is your chance to step into something new!

Whitman's sororities and fraternities offer students a close-knit community, leadership opportunities and lifelong friendships. With eight sororities and fraternities—there are plenty of ways to get involved. More than 15% of Whitman students join sororities or fraternities, forming meaningful bonds through shared lives, social events, philanthropy and campus traditions.

When Andy Dappen ’76 pitched a school-funded Outdoor Program to college leadership in 1975, he created a lasting legacy. For 50 years now, the Outdoor Program has been sparking amazing adventures, lifelong friendships and a love for the natural world in generations of Whitties.
The Whitman Sweets Ultimate teams are gearing up for nationals May 17–19—the first national tournament held on the West Coast. After sweeping their regional tournaments and earning top seedings, both teams are set to make a serious run at the national title.
Whitman’s Debate and Forensics team won the college’s first national championship in debate—securing its place as one of the top U.S. schools for debate. The senior team of Alexa Grechishkin ’25 and Isabel Mathy ’25 took the National Parliamentary Debate Association National Championship in March 2025—beating out teams from larger universities and state schools.
