Writing
121 Otis St., Walla Walla, WA 99362
Established in 1994, The Writing House has four bedrooms and comfortably houses an average of six residents and one Resident Assistant. The Writing House provides a strong creative atmosphere for students to live together and improve their writing abilities. Residents of the house host a number of writing-oriented activities throughout the school year.
Some traditional Writing House events include a weekly Writer’s Colony, a venue for students to practice different writing styles, and the Be-In, a Coffeehouse-like evening of student performances. The Writing House also hosts the annual Whitman blue moon release party. The blue moon is Whitman’s student-published literary magazine.
The Writing House is affiliated with the English department and is assigned an adviser from that department. At least once in the semester, the house adviser is invited over for dinner to discuss the programs that Writing House residents are planning for the semester.
Residents of The Writing House are responsible for completing weekly chores, having active involvement within the house and the Interest House Community, and promoting Writing House-sponsored events and activities.
If you would like to eat dinner at the Writing House, or have any questions about house activities, please contact the RA.
