Classics Guidelines

Guidelines for placing yourself in the Latin Classes:

  1. If you have had one or even two years of Latin in high school, it is usually best to begin Latin at Whitman from 105, our fall semester beginning course.

  2. If you have had two or more years of Latin in high school and feel confident of your command of the language, you might prefer to enroll at a higher level. It will be best, in such a case, to contact the Latin professor directly. We can discuss your background and administer a placement test, if that is appropriate.

If you have general questions, please contact Associate Professor Kate Shea at sheakj@whitman.edu or 509-527-5894.
