Whitman connects to the community, educates K-12 students and teachers and engages in experiences that cultivate futures and inspire exploration of science.

Science Outreach at Whitman College has been a long standing tradition that became formalized in the fall of 2009 with a four year grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Whitman continues to support this program which has grown and changed over the years and consists now of two main components.
Science in the Schools
We offer classroom programs, family science nights, planetarium programs and field trips focusing on the exploration of science. Our programs all support the Next Generation Science Standards and the curriculum of the Walla Walla Valley Schools.
Summer Institute for Teachers
Each summer we offer professional development opportunities for Walla Walla Valley Teachers.
Our outreach programs would not exist without the generous support from the following donors:
Clara and Art Bald Trust
George Welch Trust
Joseph L. Stubblefield Trust
Mary Garner Trust
