Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizen 
  • Full-time undergraduate student 
  • Competitive GPA
  • Proficiency in French if study is at a Francophone university

Award summary and benefits: The Killam Fellowship offers the experience of Canadian culture, study at any Canadian university and, by extension, transfer credits that fulfill required credits toward a degree at the student's home institution in the U.S.  The fellowship includes:

  • $5,000 (U.S.) for one semester, $10,000 (U.S.) for full academic year
  • $250 (Canadian) health insurance allowance
  • $800 (Canadian) in-country travel allowance
  • Travel costs, room and board for fall Killam orientation in Ottawa
  • Travel costs, room and board for spring seminar in Washington, DC

Application requirements: 

  • Cover sheet and checklist, completed
  • Application form, signed
  • Personal statement (one page maximum, single-spaced)
  • Curriculum vitae/resume (three pages maximum)
  • Course selection form, approved and signed by academic advisor  
  • Recommendations (2) on letterhead, sealed, and signed on the seal by the recommender
  • Official transcript(s), also sealed
  • Photocopy of passport (preferred), birth certificate, or other documentation that verifies citizenship
  • French language proficiency report (if your first language is not French and if you plan to study at a French-language university)
