Eligibility requirements:
- U.S. citizen, student with DACA or legal permanent resident*
- Junior
- Commitment to a master's degree in public and/or international affairs at a PPIA Consortium graduate school
- Demonstrated interest in a professional career associated with public service such as government, humanitarian and international organizations and related programs
- Commitment to the diversity of perspectives central to the PPIA Fellowship Program
*Note: International applicants pursuing a bachelor's degree in the U.S. will only be considered for the JSI programs at Carnegie Mellon University and Princeton University.
Award summary and conditions: The Public Policy and International Affairs (PPIA) Junior Summer Institutes are intensive, seven-week summer programs that prepare students for graduate programs in public and international affairs and careers as policy professionals, public administrators and other leadership roles in public service. The JSI curriculum includes economics, statistics, domestic/international policy issues and leadership topics, all designed to sharpen students' quantitative, analytic and communication skills. Extracurricular activities are also included. Benefits include:
- Full tuition at a PPIA Junior Summer Institute
- Eligibility to receive assistance with travel expenses
- A stipend of up to $1,500 (funding determined by each JSI)
- University housing with meal plan
- Books and related course materials
- Additional benefits such as GRE preparation, at the discretion of the individual institute
- Minimum one-time $5,000 scholarship at a PPIA graduate school with admission to a master's degree
- Fee waiver when applying to schools that are members of the PPIA Graduate School Consortium
PPIA encourages applicants to apply to at least three JSI's to improve chances for admission. Students selected for the 2019 JSI cohort will study at one of the following school:

- University of Michigan
- University of Minnesota
- University of California, Berkeley
