Eligibility Requirements:
- U.S. citizen
- Full-time undergraduate student
- Competitive GPA
- Proficiency in French if study is at a Francophone university
Award summary and benefits: The Killam Fellowship offers the experience of Canadian culture, study at any Canadian university and, by extension, transfer credits that fulfill required credits toward a degree at the student's home institution in the U.S. The fellowship includes:
- $5,000 (U.S.) for one semester, $10,000 (U.S.) for full academic year
- $250 (Canadian) health insurance allowance
- $800 (Canadian) in-country travel allowance
- Travel costs, room and board for fall Killam orientation in Ottawa
- Travel costs, room and board for spring seminar in Washington, DC

Application requirements:
- Cover sheet and checklist, completed
- Application form, signed
- Personal statement (one page maximum, single-spaced)
- Curriculum vitae/resume (three pages maximum)
- Course selection form, approved and signed by academic advisor
- Recommendations (2) on letterhead, sealed, and signed on the seal by the recommender
- Official transcript(s), also sealed
- Photocopy of passport (preferred), birth certificate, or other documentation that verifies citizenship
- French language proficiency report (if your first language is not French and if you plan to study at a French-language university)
Note: The Office of Fellowships and Grants requires proof that the Off-Campus Study Leave application ( https://www.whitman.edu/off-campus-studies/getting-started/semester-and-academic-year-programs) has been filed with the Office of Off-Campus Studies.
