2025 Summer Work Hours Options

Summer hours will start on Monday, May 26, 2025 and will end Friday, August 24, 2025. Regular schedules will resume Monday, August 25, 2025

Option 1: Starting workday early

For this option, supervisors may approve an earlier starting time for their staff and/or a 30-minute lunch break. For 40-hour per week employees options could include:

  • 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch break.
  • 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break.

Option 2: Working four 9-hour days and one 4-hour day.

For this option, supervisors may approve 9-hour shifts on Monday–Thursday with a four-hour shift on Friday. For 40-hour per week, a typical schedule might be:

  • 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 1-hour lunch break Monday–Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
  • 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 30-minute lunch break Monday–Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.

Supervisors have the discretion to approve other work hour schedules based on the needs of the department.

Either option can work in conjunction with a staff member’s hybrid work agreement.

If you are a 35 or 37-hour employee, contact Human Resources to discuss your options for work schedules. In rare instances, the nature of a staff member’s work may not suit either summer hours option.
