July 23, 2021 — Campus COVID Protocols Effective August 1

Dear Whitman Community,

As Peter Harvey informed you in an email earlier this month, Whitman’s Fall 2021 COVID Protocols go into effect August 1. We have crafted these procedures in line with current guidance from the CDC and the state of Washington Department of Health and with the requirement that every student and employee will be vaccinated against COVID-19 or have been approved for an exemption so that we may operate as a fully vaccinated campus.

If you have not yet submitted your proof of completing COVID-19 vaccination, please do so through the COVID-19 Vaccination Reporting Form as soon as you have finished all the required vaccine doses. If you intend to apply for an exemption, details of how to do so are included in the COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.

In addition to the vaccination requirement for students, faculty and staff, we are also requiring that any visitors entering campus buildings be fully vaccinated. Anyone planning to host a visitor for any reason (meetings, job interviews, academic or athletic events, etc.) should follow the process outlined in the Visitor/Event Access to Whitman Campus Facilities document. This provides information on how to verify visitor vaccination for different types of events as well as some sample wording and talking points for answering questions.

While we are pleased that the 2021-22 academic year will see classes and activities resume in closer-to-normal ways, it is important to remember that this pandemic is not over and we are not entirely back to normal. As we have seen throughout the past year and a half, circumstances can change quickly and we may need to revise our campus COVID protocols if conditions worsen. The health and safety of our campus community remains a top priority and we trust that all our students, faculty and staff will continue to do their part in helping to bring this pandemic closer to its end.

Best,

Josh Jensen
