Trustee Ryan Crocker '71 named to Broadcasting Board of Governors
Whitman College Trustee Ryan Crocker ’71, who recently retired after a long career as a U.S. Ambassador, has been named to the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
Crocker is one of three new members elected to the BBG, an organization that oversees all international government-supported, non-military broadcasting. It currently supervises broadcasts in 65 different languages. Broadcasters within the BBG network include the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Radio Free Asia and the Office of Cuba Broadcasting. Other prominent members of the BBG include former Secretary of State John Kerry and President of NBC Universal International Jeffrey Shell.
Crocker graduated from Whitman with a degree in English. He then went on to a serve for 37 years in the Foreign Service. He has been the ambassador to Iraq, Pakistan, Kuwait, Syria and Lebanon.
Currently, Crocker is the dean of the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University and the James Schlesinger Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia.
