Whitman orchestra to perform at statewide music convention
The Whitman College orchestra, directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Jeremy Mims, is going on tour and will be the featured college orchestra at the Washington Music Educators’ Association (WMEA).
Their first stop is Portland, for two performances: at Portland State University on Feb. 15 and at Rose Park United Methodist Church on Feb. 16. Both concerts will take place at 7:30.
The highlight of the tour is a grand finale performance at the WMEA convention in the Yakima Convention Center, on Friday, Feb. 17 at 8 pm. Whitman’s is the only college orchestra selected to perform at the convention.
Mims said that he has seen the orchestra make great progress.
“I have been inspired by their zeal for learning and their desire to improve musically. The orchestra has become a team, listening to each other and striving to achieve a higher level of playing,” he said.
He looks forward to the upcoming performance.
“I certainly have the best seat in the house.”
