8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. • FINANCIAL AID OFFICE OPEN, Memorial 123. The Financial Aid Office is open if you have questions.

9 a.m.-1 p.m. • RESIDENCE HALLS OPEN FOR NEW STUDENTS. All students should arrive at their residence halls by 1 p.m. Upon checking in, students will receive a New Student Packet that contains additional orientation information.

9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. • PACKAGE PICK-UP, Reid Campus Center G02. Packages mailed to the college over the summer may be picked up during this time.

9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. • FRIDAY LUNCH TICKETS ON SALE, Reid Campus Center Foyer. The Thursday night dinner is complimentary for new students and their families. Family members who want to have lunch on Friday may purchase meal tickets in advance or at the event. There is a $14.25 charge for adults and a $7.00 charge for children 12 and under. The Friday lunch is complimentary for new students.

9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. • BUSINESS OFFICE OPEN, Memorial 233. All bills must be paid or other financial arrangements made before you can get Business Office clearance for registration.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. • REFRIGERATOR RENTALS, Reid Campus Center, room 202. Small residence hall refrigerators are available to rent for the academic year.

10 a.m.-1 p.m. • HOSPITALITY CENTER, Reid Campus Center Stevens Gallery (first floor). Parents are welcome to use the hospitality center during the afternoon. Light refreshments will be available.

1-2 p.m. • CAMPUS TOUR, Penrose Library. Take a walk through the Whitman College campus with a student guide. Tours leave from the front steps of Penrose Library.

1:15-2:15 p.m. • RECEPTION FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS WHO ARE WHITMAN ALUMNI AND/OR FROM THE WALLA WALLA VALLEY. New students whose parents are alumni of Whitman College and their families, as well as new students from the Walla Walla Valley, are invited to a reception hosted by President Kathleen Murray and the Whitman College Alumni Association at Sherwood House, located at 1107 Alvarado Terrace.

2:30-3:15 p.m. • PRESIDENTIAL WELCOME, Cordiner Hall. President Kathleen Murray will offer welcoming remarks.

3:30-5 p.m. • THE WHITMAN ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE, Cordiner Hall. Provost/Dean of the Faculty Alzada Tipton will moderate a panel on the academic experience at Whitman, including the required first-year curriculum, the process of selecting a major, the off-campus studies program and the senior year experience.

5-6:30 p.m. • DINNER, Prentiss Hall front lawn (Reid Campus Center in case of rain). Dinner is complimentary for new students and their families.

6:30-7:30 p.m. • FIRST GENERATION FAMILY RECEPTION, Glover Alston Center backyard, 26 Boyer Avenue. Parents/families of students who are first in their family to attend college or who come from a working-class background are invited to the Glover Alston Center for an informal gathering to connect with the Intercultural Center staff, who can serve as a future resource. Dessert and beverages provided.

10:15-11:15 a.m. • INTRODUCTION TO RESIDENCE HALL LIVING, Residence Hall main lounges. Meet the staff of your student’s residence hall and learn more about the hall’s living environment.

4:30-5:30 p.m. • WHITMAN COLLEGE OPENING CONVOCATION, Cordiner Hall. All students and family members are cordially invited to attend this event that marks the formal opening of the college year. New students will be seated as a class for this event. Susanne Beechey Associate Professor of Politics, will deliver the convocation address.

5:30-6:15 p.m. • FAMILY FAREWELL RECEPTION, Cordiner Side Lawn ( Reid Campus Center in case of rain). Family members and new students are invited to join President Murray and members of the administration for a post-Convocation reception.

6:15 p.m. • PARENT/FAMILY ORIENTATION ENDS. Thank you for your participation in our program. We hope you will be able to return to campus for Family Weekend, October 19-21, 2018!

6:30-7 p.m. • CALLING ALL JEWS , Prentiss Spirituality Room, Prentiss Residence Hall. Parents and students please come join us for a 30-minute informal session and learn about Jewish life in Walla Walla. Students from Whitman's Hillel group and representatives from the local congregation, Congregation Beth Israel, will meet for a short Shabbat celebration and chat. All Jews, even non-religious, are welcome.
