Summer Dance Lab presents Festival
Summer Dance Lab (SDL), an intensive summer program held annually on the Whitman campus, is set to perform the Walla Walla Summer Dance Festival (WWSDF) on July 29 at 7 p.m. in Cordiner Hall. This year the festival will feature Oregon Ballet Theatre, principal dancers from Eugene Ballet Company, Spectrum Dance Theater and special guest Peter de Grasse of Staatstheater Darmstadt, Germany.
The Dance Festival will include classical ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop, jazz, American theater and more. Regional and national dance companies and established and emerging choreographers will be invited to present their work.
Students and dance aficionados of every age are encouraged to attend this rare intimate look into the creative process of the dance.
A free open rehearsal is scheduled for July 23 at 2 p.m. and will feature de Grasse and Allie Keppel of the Whitman College Summer Dance Lab faculty. The performance will be held at the new Power House Theater, 111 N. 6th Avenue in Walla Walla.
The Summer Dance Lab, now in its 41st year of operation, offers intensive programs focused on developing well-rounded dancers who have the proper depth of training and experience. SDL aims to prepare dancers for sustained careers, providing the tools that will enable them to meet the demands of an ever changing dance world.
