barber Mary Deming Barber

Mary Deming Barber ’78 of Anchorage, Alaska, joins the Alumni Association board. Barber, with more than three decades of public relations experience, formed her own firm in 2000. She continues to serve as president and CEO of the Barber Group Inc., a strategic communications and public relations firm in Anchorage.

Barber has served on the boards of the Public Relations Society of America as well as her local United Way chapter. In 2009 she was inducted into the Anchorage chapter of the Athena Society, which recognizes women for their professional excellence, commitment to community and encouragement of the leadership potential of women. She has served Whitman as an admission and associate class representative.

Barber was on campus for her first alumni board meeting in October 2009. She looks forward to applying her communications skills to advance the already strong sense of community held by Whitman students, parents and alumni.
