Saturday Night BB: Helping Haiti Rebound
WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Whitman College women's and men's basketball teams will be helping "Haiti Rebound from Disaster" when they host a pair of Northwest Conference games this Saturday night in Sherwood Center.
All gate receipts for the two games, which pit the Whitman squads against their Linfield College counterparts, will be donated to the American Red Cross and its Haiti disaster relief fund.
Donation boxes will also be available in Sherwood Center during the two games for anyone who wants to make additional contributions to assist Haiti. All checks can be made payable to American Red Cross Haiti Fund.
Tens of thousands of lives were lost in Haiti's recent magnitude 7 earthquake, which reduced much of the Caribbean island to rubble.
Saturday's basketball action in Sherwood Center gets underway with the women's game at 6 p.m. The men's game follows at 8 p.m.
Admission for the two games is $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and $1 for students.
Admission to all Whitman home athletic events is free for Whitman students, faculty and staff, although everyone is encouraged to contribute (any amount) on Saturday to assist Haiti.
