Dear Whitman Community,
To help all of us get through these challenging times and to help maintain healthy working and learning conditions, the library is taking the following actions:
- Beginning immediately, Penrose Library is only available to current Whitman students, faculty, and staff members. Please use your ID card to gain entrance to the building.
- The Library will close tomorrow at 5:00 pm, and will ONLY be open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for the remainder of the semester. There will be no weekend, evening, or overnight hours.
- Access to the Archives must be arranged in advance. Please email or call Archives staff.
- We are extending due dates for library materials. If you have materials currently checked-out, you should be receiving a notice with the new dates shortly. Please return items to the outside book drop when you are finished with them. Conversely, we'll be providing information soon about returning materials if you are not on campus.
- We have developed a robust capability to provide virtual reference and instruction services. Please use the CHAT WITH LIBRARIAN function on our home page ( https://library.whitman.edu/) to be in contact with us.
We will make every effort to ensure that students and faculty have access to the information resources they need to complete coursework, finish research, and continue their academic lives. Our physical and digital collections will be available for use, and reference librarians will be here to answer questions and provide research guidance. Currently Summit and ILL-partner libraries continue to lend materials. Please check our home page frequently for updated information.
