Dear members of the Whitman Community,
As campus prepares for spring break in a time of heightened concern about coronavirus, it’s important that each of us — students, faculty and staff — think about the ramifications of our spring break travel. As you know, we are strongly discouraging travel during the break both internationally and within the U.S. It’s not too late to change plans and there are resources available on campus for those who are staying.
Here is some information you should know:
- The residence halls will remain open during the break for students who live on campus.
- Cleveland Commons will be open with limited options for students who plan to stay during the break.
Lunch: 12-1 p.m.
Dinner: 5-6 p.m. - Students with need-based aid who find that they are running out of flex dollar points toward the end of the semester — due to the additional spring break meals on campus — can work with the Dean of Students Office for assistance.
- The Health Center will remain open with limited hours weekdays from 9am to noon.
- Staff from the counseling center will be available on an on-call basis.
- The library will be open from 9am to 10pm daily.
- Campus buildings will remain open.
Important: If you have not done so already or you change your plans, please fill out the spring break travel alert planning form.
If you decide to leave campus, please take everything you would need to self-isolate or take classes remotely. The coronavirus situation is constantly changing and travel restrictions are a real possibility. There is also the possibility that the college will need to move to online instruction as the virus progresses. All students should be prepared for that possibility.
Today’s forum: If you have questions, you can attend the coronavirus forum at 4 p.m. today in Maxey Auditorium or you can watch online at https://vimeo.com/396575269/eef88e4abf
