Whitman reaches the summit of Mount Everest - again

Whitman College Director of Outdoor Programs Brien Sheedy summited Mount Everest for the second time on May 18, 2013.

Sheedy was leading an expedition for Alpine Ascents International. His second ascent of Everest’s 29,035-foot summit took 13 hours, starting from Camp Three.

“As a guide and educator, I strive to help others reach their goals, and helping a group of individuals reach a life goal of climbing Everest is a significant and rewarding challenge," said Sheedy, who has successfully conquered the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents.

One of the individuals in Sheedy’s climbing party was Raha Mobarak, the first Saudi woman to scale Everest.

“I worked with Raha quite a bit and it was a thrill to see her reach her goal,” Sheedy said.
