A distinguished, veteran higher education leader, Terrio most recently served Lewis & Clark College for 10 years as chief technology officer and now will work to advance Whitman’s academic mission and administrative goals through information technology. Terrio will replace long-time Whitman CIO Keiko Pitter, who has served the college since 1998.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dan Terrio to campus,” Bridges said. “He will combine his vision, extensive knowledge of information technology, and management and leadership experience with a track record of relationship-building and a spirit of collaboration that will serve his department, the college and our many constituencies very well.”

“I could not be more excited to join the Whitman College community, and I welcome this opportunity to lead a great information technology effort at a nationally recognized institution,” Terrio said. “During the interview process, I had the opportunity to meet a number of faculty, staff and students and was impressed with the quality of the people and their welcoming spirit as well as the quality of the education and the institution.  While it is sad to leave a great college like Lewis & Clark after 10 years, it is an honor to be selected as the next CIO at Whitman.”

Terrio holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Augsburg College (Minneapolis) and has studied at the University of Minnesota toward a Ph.D. in educational policy and higher education administration. He has published numerous papers related to higher education technology and has presented multiple times at EDUCAUSE, the leading organization devoted to advancing higher education through the effective use of information technology.

Among many accomplishments at Lewis & Clark, Terrio successfully led the planning of the technology infrastructure for a number of new campus facilities, found ways to reduce operating expenses significantly while meeting and exceeding program goals, led a process that resulted in improved wireless access on campus and implemented a document management solution for the college.

Prior to serving Lewis & Clark College, Terrio was CTO and director of information technology at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, and director of information technology for the Farmer School of Business Administration at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). He also served as manager of academic computing at Augsburg College, his undergraduate alma mater.

A resident of West Linn, Ore., Terrio and his spouse, Bonnie, look forward to their move to Walla Walla with their two labs (Laney and Mulligan).  They enjoy golfing, hiking, and snowshoeing and are looking forward to trying out these activities in the geography of Southeast Washington and Northeast Oregon.
