About Upward Together

This is a High-Stakes Moment. For Whitman and for the World.

The landscape of our home is open and spacious and full of adventure and opportunities for discovery. The cultural and global landscape—with increasingly complex challenges—calls out in need of brave, bold leadership. Bolstered by the shared experiences and unshakeable values that tie us together, it’s time to build on Whitman College’s historic strengths while seizing new opportunities before us.

Rising to the challenge. Lifting up new and different ideas. Pursuing our highest peak yet.

More Than a Campaign, a Call to Action

For generations, a Whitman education has been transformational in preparing students to lead meaningful, purpose-filled lives, a mainstay of liberal arts learning in an ever-changing world.

The decades to come will call for bright minds who hold a broad understanding of history and science, artistic expression and technological advancement, human experience and cutting-edge research, systemic inequity and social justice. The future we’re racing toward demands innovators who can inspire and educate, strengthen our cultural institutions, improve access to fundamental human rights, and preserve and restore the world—boldly, wisely and with great humanity.

For tomorrow and every day after, the world needs more dreamers and doers. More startup entrepreneurs and community collaborators. More thought partners with global perspective. The world needs Whitman.

The World Needs Whitties

That’s why—to realize our mission and ensure we can continue to powerfully show up for our students and communities going forward—we are embarking on Whitman’s most ambitious fundraising campaign to date.
