About Us
The Fellowships and Grants team at the Career and Community Engagement Center works closely with Whitman students and alumni in their candidacy for national scholarships, fellowships and grants. Please browse our various databases for curated lists of opportunities, including both major fellowships and miscellaneous fellowships.
Each year Whitman students earn generous awards for graduate study, research, teaching, public service and independent projects in the U.S. and abroad. Successful applicants typically excel in three areas: academic achievement, leadership and community engagement/service.
Candidates are advised to explore opportunities that best match their interests, experience and long-term goals, and to work well in advance of submission deadlines. Competition for merit-based fellowships, scholarships and grants is keen. Applications require careful thought and considerable preparation.
We follow a simple protocol for students and alumni who are new to the office. Complete this intake survey to communicate your availability and submit relevant materials (including an information form, transcript, and resume or CV) to the F&G team. These items will give us a good blueprint of your academic standing, service, and leadership, all of which figure into any competitive fellowship, scholarship, or grant application.
Director for Fellowships and Grants, Dr. Jess Hernandez, is available via appointment. Use the form linked here, rather than email, to request all appointments. Contact Administrative Assistant Jenny Stratton with questions.
