Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Professor of Sociology
Helen K. Kim assumed the position of Associate Dean for Faculty Development July 15, 2019. Prior to her appointment, Helen served as Interim Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion from 2018-2019. She is currently Professor of Sociology and Director of Encounters, Whitman's First Year Experience. Helen has held various administrative positions at the college including Department Chair and Director of the Tenure-Track Faculty Mentoring Program. Her scholarship focuses on race and American Judaism in the contemporary era. Along with co-author, Noah Leavitt, she published JewAsian: Race, Religion, and Identity for America's Newest Jews in 2016 with University of Nebraska Press. Her scholarship has been profiled in the New York Times, NPR, and Huffington Post.
