By Bradley Nelson

Adam MillerWhitman College President Sarah R. Bolton announced the appointment of Adam Miller as the college’s new Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid. Miller has been serving as Interim Vice President since August 2021, and will assume the role in a permanent capacity effective immediately.

“Adam has been a major contributor to Whitman’s admission and financial aid strategy during the past 9 years,” says Bolton. “He has played key roles in reaching out to students here in our region and around the country, advancing both the diversity and the internationality of our student body significantly and shifting our financial aid to better meet student needs.”

Miller was hired at Whitman College in 2013 as Director of Admission, leading a team of 15–20 staff and dozens of student workers, helped develop data-informed strategic recruitment priorities, leveraged technology to streamline the recruitment process and worked closely with the Office of Communications on admission messaging and marketing strategies. As Interim Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid, Miller served on the President’s Cabinet, engaged with the Board of Trustees on admission and financial aid strategy and managed budgets totalling more than $3 million.

Business Insider highlighted Whitman’s innovative approach to financial aid transparency in this conversation with Miller.

“I'm very proud of the thoughtful and innovative work our admission and financial aid teams have done to remove barriers in the admission process, invest in financial aid and strive to create an inclusive experience for prospective students and families as they come to know Whitman,” says Miller. “Recruiting future Whitties is a team effort and I am eager to continue leading that effort.”

Prior to joining the Whitman community, Miller worked in the admission office at Claremont McKenna College, where he directed international recruitment efforts, served as admission liaison for 21 varsity sports, assisted in the adoption of technology solutions, and mentored and trained junior admission professionals. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Economics from Claremont McKenna College and a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of Redlands.
