Professor Yukiko Shigeto received her Ph. D. in Japanese Literature, Theory and Criticism from the University of Washington. She teaches courses in 20th and 21st century Japanese literature, film, and all levels of Japanese language. Her current research explores how aesthetic engagements initiated by literary fiction create pathways for encountering the memories borne by the dead in postwar Japan. She has been focusing on works by Tsushima Yuko and Furui Yoshikichi among others. Her works on Nakano Shigeharu and Dazai Osamu have appeared in positions: asia critique and Japan Forum.
