Floor to ceiling windows flood classrooms with natural light.

Sunlight through skylights creates its own ever-changing art near the main stairway.

Since the Fouts Center for Visual Arts opened its doors in September 2008, it has become the focal point for art and artistry on campus. It is home to pottery, painting, sculpting, digital and book arts, welding and a studio for senior art majors. Yet, it is so much more than bright, airy classrooms. Galleries for special exhibits bring members of the Whitman and Walla Walla communities into the facility regularly, and alumni and others find it a stunning setting for reunion receptions and events.

The dedication for the Richard Jens Rasmussen Memorial Sculpture, which honors the late professor emeritus of art, who taught at Whitman for 30 years, was held in May 2011. The sculpture was designed by his daughter, Lisa Anne Rasmussen '86 and Frank Munns, director of the Sheehan Gallery from 1976 to 1983. The project was overseen and executed by Mark Anderson '78 and the Walla Walla Foundry.

The Richard Jens Rasmussen Memorial Sculpture, located on the second floor of Fouts, was dedicated in May 2011.
