Mark Strand, former U.S. Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winner, to give Walt Whitman Lecture
MacArthur Fellow, Recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, and former U.S. Poet Laureate Mark Strand will deliver this year's Walt Whitman Lecture as part of the Visiting Writers Reading Series. The VWRS is supported by Whitman's Department of English, the Mabel Groseclose fund, the office of the Dean/Provost, Humanities Washington, and through a generous anonymous donation, with additional support for this lecture from the Office of the President.
Strand is an esteemed author of dozens of books in all genres (poetry, nonfiction, and fiction for both adults and children), as well as being a renowned essayist, translator, critic, and editor. His lecture will take place at 7 P.M. on Oct. 3 in Maxey Auditorium. This will be followed by a Q&A session and a book signing in the lobby. Books will be available for purchase at the Whitman College Bookstore after the lecture or at the book signing.
