SFBC Minutes - September 2, 2010
Members Present: Sonja Aikens, Jason Arp, Jeff Donahue, Jennifer McNeil, Chris Tarvin, Karen Webb and Deb Wright
Members Absent: David Sprunger
Invited Guests: Cindy Matern and Michele Hanford
The meeting was called to order at 1:20 p.m. in the conference room at Plant Services.
The minutes from the July meeting were reviewed. The minutes were then approved by a motion from Jeff and were seconded by Jennifer. Motion carried unanimously.
Michele Hanford was present to share that she has been asked by President Bridges and Dean Snider to create a Wellness Program. She wanted to ask for the committee’s help. The Committee agreed she had our full support. Michele also stated that she will be meeting with President Bridges to discuss what he has in mind and to share her thoughts on what the program would entail. A survey will go out to all community members to gather ideas on what they want in a Wellness Program. In addition, Rachna Sinnott from Development will be researching possible grants from Premera. When further details are available, Michele will communicate those with the Committee.
Cindy Waring provided an update on the new volunteer/gym access policy. Anyone who volunteers for three months, averaging at least 10 hours a month, will be granted access to the Fitness Center for one year. They must submit volunteer timesheets and there will be no fee, unless they misplace their ID card at which they will need to pay for the replacement card.
There was no update offered for the Dispute Resolution as the people involved were unable to meet. It will be presented to President’s Council in late September.
Chris Tarvin informed the committee that she has contacted the Social Security Office in regards to presenting on retirement. However the person she needs to speak with was unavailable. She will follow up with them. After some discussion, it was decided that breaking out retirement into a few sessions would be the most beneficial approach as there are many aspects. Chris will look into setting up individual sessions on Social Security, Medicare and supplemental insurance/long term care. Cindy stated that TIAA-CREF will be holding a session on retirement in the near future. Deb Wright indicated that Dan Roach is scheduled to present October 6 on Living Wills.
The question arose on how “ObamaCare” would affect us. Cindy mentioned that we will be starting the renewal process later this month and it would be a great question for Parker, Smith and Feek.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
Next SFBC meeting: TBA.
