Faculty Award for Service 2015
The Whitman College Alumni Association Faculty Award for Service is given yearly to a faculty member who has distinguished himself/herself in service to the Alumni Association. Although this service may take any number of forms, the underlying theme involves strengthening and maintaining ties between the College and its alumni. Examples of service include participation in alumni gatherings, both on and off campus, and assistance in the planning/implementation of alumni events.
Recipient for 2015 is Gary Rollefson
Gary Rollefson first partnered with the Alumni Association in 2006 and continued to do so for the past 9 years. Whether traveling to Seattle or Portland multiple times, to Philadelphia or Silver Falls, Ore., and beyond, he has enchanted alumni with tales of discoveries and adventures in faraway places.
In addition to giving lectures and leading museum tours, Gary led 32 alumni and parents on an Alumni Association trip through Egypt and Jordan. To see this land through the eyes of an archeologist was an experience of a lifetime.
Gary retired at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. He will continue teach a class here and there, but will spend this fall on-site in Jordan. We are grateful to Gary for his service to the Whitman College Alumni Association, and pleased to present him with the 2015 Faculty Award for Service.
