Faculty Award for Service 2003
Faculty Award for Service
The Whitman College Alumni Association Faculty Award for Service is given yearly to a faculty member who has distinguished himself/herself in service to the Alumni Association. Although this service may take any number of forms, the underlying theme involves strengthening and maintaining ties between the College and its alumni. Examples of service include participation in alumni gatherings, both on and off campus, and assistance in the planning/implementation of alumni events.
2003 Faculty Award for
Service Recipient
Professor of sociology Keith Farrington is the 2003 recipient of the Whitman College Alumni Association Faculty Award for Service. The alumni present the award to Farrington, a member of the faculty since 1977, for his participation in alumni activities over an extended period of time.
A well-known member of Whitman's faculty, Farrington has shared his knowledge of the History and Sociology of Rock 'n' Roll with members of the Senior Alumni College, lectured on the history of jazz at the Sun Valley Jazz Festival, and held a captive audience of Whitman alumni on Alcatraz. Over the years, Professor Farrington has been a part of numerous faculty panels and he continues to invite alumni speakers to speak with current students.
