5. Importing text

You can create text in Illustrator, but it is much easier to create paragraph text in a separate word processing program like Microsoft® Word®. Importing text is almost identical to importing a graphic. However, for some reason Adobe Illustrator doesn’t like to place documents in Microsoft Word (.doc) format. No Problem, just resave the document in Word as "Text only," and import the document the same way as you would a graphic (see 4. Importing graphics and placing them on the page). The document will only import as plain text, which in other words means any formatting you did (for example changing the font type/size or making bold text) will not transfer. You will have to do all the formatting in Illustrator.
