Whitman Women’s Basketball Team Bound for NCAA Tournament
The No. 6 Whitman College women’s basketball team is bound for the NCAA Tournament this weekend after defeating Pacific University (Oregon) 76-57 to clinch the Northwest Conference Tournament title on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022.
In the qualifying game, junior psychology major Sydney Abbott dropped a season-high 23 points on 8-12 shooting and senior chemistry-environmental studies major Kaylie McCracken poured in a game-high 24 more.
Earlier that week, McCracken was named first team and Abbott second team on the Northwest All-Conference Women’s Basketball Team. The Feb. 23 league announcement also named Blues coach Michelle Ferenz Northwest Conference Coach of the Year and awarded honorable mentions to senior psychology and biology major Kaelan Shamseldin and sophomore Korin Baker.
The Blues (26-1) head to Texas to open the 2022 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament to open against Whittier College (16-8) out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Friday, March 4, 2022.
