Norman P. Cheuk ’91 & Mito Alfieri
Since graduating from Whitman, Norman Cheuk ’91 has remained involved with the college through many channels. He has served on the Alumni Board, the Board of Overseers and now the President’s Advisory Board. He has also enjoyed mentoring Whitman students as they transition into their careers after Whitman.
Norman received his Bachelor of Arts in Politics at Whitman and earned a law degree from Seattle University. He has spent much of his career at Microsoft. His wife, Mito Alfieri, enjoys working at the Gates Foundation. Today, their service to Whitman continues through the Cheuk-Alfieri Family Scholarship Endowment, which provides need-based scholarship support for female students majoring in Computer Science. Their philanthropy supports Upward Together’s goal of fully meeting the demonstrated financial need for all students. Additionally, the couple’s support plays an important role in preparing Whitman students to meet the need for brave and bold leadership in an increasingly complex global landscape.
With strong ties to the Northwest, Mito and Norman are generous with their time, not only to Whitman but to other local charitable organizations in the Seattle area. Their daughter, Sofia, is studying close by at the University of Washington, and they enjoy spending time together as a family.
Fifty Under 50 is a new initiative recognizing emerging leaders in philanthropy. Members are graduates of the class of 1989 or later and have made gifts and pledges exceeding $50,000 to the campaign.
