Why you chose Whitman: I was initially interested in Whitman because of its small size, and because I knew that I wanted to go to a liberal arts college. As I researched the school I found that current students loved its tight-knit community and the accessibility of professors. All of these aspects swayed me towards Whitman, and the strength of my financial aid package made my decision to attend easy.
Favorite things to do in Walla Walla: I love to take long walks with my friends through Walla Walla’s beautiful neighborhoods, especially in the fall when the air is crisp and the leaves are bright oranges and reds. Common stops include coffee shops and antique stores.
Favorite spot on campus: Penrose Library! I tend to do most of my schoolwork at the library. There are many beautiful and sun-filled places to sit, and the library provides a space for productivity, focus, and motivation. It’s also fun to look through the shelves at all of the interesting books I will never have time to read.
What advice you’d give yourself when you were going through the college process: I would suggest speaking to current students at the schools I was applying to! While websites have good information, the best way to understand the community of a college is to ask current students questions.
Best class you’ve taken on campus: The class that sticks out to me (among the many amazing courses I’ve taken,) is Mediating Religions with Professor Lauren Osborne. The readings and discussions were always interesting, and Professor Osborne, alongside the students of the class, was able to create a tight-knit, and curious class community.
Favorite campus tradition: Birdbath fountain! There is a large birdbath-shaped fountain in front of Hunter Conservatory, and when it’s warm outside students like to sit and wade in the water. It is especially refreshing in the hot Walla Walla summer.
