Placement
Language Courses
If you have not previously studied French, you may simply enroll in the beginning course (French 100).
If you have previously studied French, you will need to take an on-line placement test to help you determine the proper course in which to enroll. Native speakers of a language must also take the placement test in order to verify their mastery of the written language. For more information and instructions about how to begin, please see the Placement Test web page.
Literature Courses
Students registering for literature courses (courses numbered 400 and above in the catalog) must have completed at least two 300-level French classes at Whitman or have the consent of the instructor.
* Note: AP credits do not count toward the fulfillment of the major or minor requirements in French.
