College Year in Athens (CYA)

The College Year in Athens (CYA) program enables students to spend a single semester or academic year in Athens studying classics and ancient Greek civilization or modern Eastern Mediterranean studies with Greek, European, and American scholars in Athens. By incorporating field trips to important sites relevant to ancient and Byzantine history in and around Athens, on the island of Crete, on the Peloponnese, and in northern Greece, the program takes full advantage of its location in Greece. The CYA program is well-suited for students of classics or those interested in contemporary issues of the Mediterranean region.

“You get to live in an apartment in the center of Athens, and so you will have plenty of opportunities to try and speak Greek and meet Greek people. All of the independent stores make it easy to get friendly in day-to-day encounters with store owners. Additionally, you can walk almost anywhere you would want to go, and a metro stop is a 5-10 minute walk in any direction, which provided me with tons of options to go anywhere in the city. I really enjoyed the level of integration because it was completely in my own hands. If you want to interact with more Greeks you go out and do it, and if you don’t want to, your CYA classmates are never far from you.” - Henry M. ‘16
