Student Organizations + Gender Studies

Whitman is lucky to have a number of clubs and groups on campus that may be of interest to students of Gender Studies.

Feminists Advocating Change and Empowerment (FACE)

Feminists Advocating Change and Empowerment (FACE) is a student organization at Whitman College that advocates for issues of gender equality on the campus, local, state, and national levels. We provide educational programming to raise awareness about these issues and to combat gender stereotypes. Our goal is to help foster a campus community that supports a broad range of feminist ideals, including social, political and economic equality for all people, regardless of gender.

Sexual Health Advocacy Group (SHAG)

Our mission on this campus is to provide our community with comprehensive, intersectional, and inclusive sexual health education that de-stigmatizes all aspects of sexuality and breaks down normative ideals surrounding sex and bodies. We are committed to acknowledging the ways in which race, socioeconomic status, gender, and other social identifiers affect people's relationship with sexuality, and providing education and access to resources that address these complexities. We will accomplish this through providing safe spaces for people of all identities to learn about healthy, enjoyable and empowering ways to approach sex and conversations about sex.
