Walla Walla, Wa. - The Whitman College Volleyball team finished the NWC season on a strong note winning 6 of its last 7 and earning a 4th place NWC finish. In doing so three Whit Women have earned All-NWC honors.

Jillian Davis, a junior from Coronado HS in El Paso TX, has been named to the NWC first team. As a first year, Davis earned NWC 1st team and was also named the AVCA West Region Freshman of the year. In 2011 she earned All-NWC 2nd team.
“She is the complete team player who also has excellent volleyball skills. I am so proud of Jillian and all her accomplishments this season” says first year coach Matt Helm. “Most volleyball fans would notice Jillian for her unbelievable arm swing and thunderous spikes. I like to recognize Jill for her consistent serve receive, unpredictable serve location and undeniable leadership. Her accolades are attributed to her work ethic and leadership.”
Earning a spot on the NWC 2nd team is senior middle blocker Olivia Nielson. Hailing from AJ Diamond HS in Anchorage, AK Nielson was also ranked 9th in the NCAA in Block per game. “I was so excited to watch Olivia develop this year and couldn't be more proud of her.” says Helm. “She is the player in the gym who doesn't complain and does the work. She leads by example and obviously, by her stats, loves to block. Olivia is such a genuinely nice person. I am very happy that the coaches in the league recognize her as an all-conference player. She had an outstanding season!”
Rounding out the honors is senior middle blocker Courtney Brewer who earned NWC honorable mention. “Crafty, carving, cerebral. These are the words I think of when asked to describe Courtney” reports Helm. “I won't be surprised if, I mean when, she becomes a successful coach at any level. Cor is an excellent leader who has great volleyball IQ."
In 2011 the team struggled through several injuries, placing 9th in the NWC. Under first year coach Matt Helm Whitman went 9-7 in conference and 11-12 overall, its best season since 2007.
