Quail Ridge Invite
Clarkston, Wash. — Senior Geoff Burks shot a 2-over-par 74 here Saturday at Quail Ridge to lead Whitman College’s 2012-13 men’s golf debut in a three-school competition.
Burks, who is from Edmonds, Wash., finished seven shots behind medalist Rylee Iacolluci, a freshman from Cle Elum, Wash., who shot a 67 and led host Lewis-Clark State College to a first-place finish. The Warriors finished with a 284 team tally to outdistance Whitworth University, which turned in a 290 tally, and Whitman, which was third with a 314 score.
Whitworth junior Jesse Salzwedel shot 68 to lead the Pirates and place second in individual play. LCSC’s Drew Reinland, who prepped at Walla Walla High School, shot a 2-under-par 70 and tied Whitworth’s Joey Degroff for third place.
Freshman Daniel Hoffman (Los Altos, Calif.) shot a 79 for Whitman and was the only other Missionary to break 80. Two other first-year players, Connor Hood (Bellevue, Wash.) and Evan Dyar (Spokane), shot 80 and 81, respectively, for Whitman. Sophomore Nathan Fisher (Tacoma, Wash.) turned in an 82 for Whitman’s fifth team-counting score and junior Jordan Dixon (Spokane) carded a non-counting 87.
Whitman returns to action this coming weekend, Sept. 22-23, when the Missionaries travel to Banks, Ore., to compete in the Pacific Invitational at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
