Whitman, Linfield Advance Five Tennis Duos

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- With the opening round of doubles in the book, both Whitman College and Linfield College have five duos still alive in the Wilson/ITA Pacific Northwest Regional Men's Tennis Championships.
The NCAA Div. III tournament, which got underway Friday night in Whitman's Bratton Tennis Center, resumes at 8 a.m. Saturday with the first round of singles. Weather permitting, matches will take place on four outdoor campus courts in addition to the four courts in Bratton.
Whitman's Matt Solomon and Etienne Moshevich, the top seeds and defending champs in doubles, received a first-round bye and advanced to the Round of 16. Pacific Lutheran's Michael Manser and Joel Trudel, the No. 2 seeds, also received a first-round bye, as did the No. 4 seeds, Whitman's Nadeem Kassam and Chris Bailey.
In Friday night's final match, Linfield's seventh-seeded Brent Kingzett and Walt James rallied for a 9-7 victory over Whitman's Thomas Roston and Adriel Borshansky. Linfield's top-seeded duo, No. 3 Nick Ruess and Ward Van Mens, notched an easy 8-1 victory in its opener.
Whitman's Justin Hayashi and Dan Wilson, the No. 8 seeds, advanced with an 8-3 win. Also advancing for Whitman were the teams of Reid Bennett-Stefan Dernbach and Christoph Fuchs-Quin Miller.
Other Linfield duos moving to the Round of 16 were Kyle Anderson-Tal DeWitt, Matt Kauffman-Alex Smith, and Luke Rembold-Mark Magdaong.
Pacific Lutheran's Zach Ah Yat and Chris Dew, the No. 6 seeds, advanced to the next round, along with another Lute combo, Eli Drew and John deMars.
Filling out the Round of 16 are Willamette's fifth-seeded Andrew Murakami and Matt Houser, Pacific's Patrick Kinghorn and Michael Okada, and Whitworth's Joe Wales and Colin Zalewski.Tournament website/results
