Mark L. Damen received his Ph.D from the University of Texas at Austin. At Utah State University, he teaches a wide range of courses including (but not limited to) the Ancient Near East, pre-modern Western Civilization, Classical Drama, English Etymology, and all levels of Latin and Greek language. He has three times been named a USU Mortar Board Outstanding Professor. In 1997-98 he was designated Teacher of the Year for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and went on to win the Carnegie Foundation's CASE Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Utah. He has written numerous articles and book reviews for publications such as The Transactions of the American Philological Association, Classical Journal, Classical World, and Theatre Journal.
