Wood, Jorgensen Crack Top Ten for Whits

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Oliver Wood and Michael Jorgensen cracked the top 10 but Whitman College was no match for Lewis-Clark State in the men's 8,000 meters in Saturday morning's Whitman Cross Country Invitational at Ft. Walla Walla Park.

Led by junior Jimmy Oribo, who won the race in 25:43.99, LCSC swept the top seven individual places and took first in the team scoring with 15 place points for its top five runners.

Wood, a Whitman junior running in his first collegiate cross country race, was eighth in 27:50.68. Jorgensen, a sophomore, was ninth in 28:01.91.

With only two teams entered in the meet, Whitman took second place in the team scoring with 50 place points for its top five.

Senior captain Brendan Boyer placed 11th for the Missionaries in 28:10.40. Completing the Missionary team score were junior Taylor Mesodjenik, who was 12th in 28:18. 28, and junior Cory Rand, who was 13th in 28:30.03.

Filling Whitman's next five spots were freshman Tyler Goolsby (14th, 28:51.93), sophomore Christopher Farley (15th, 28:52.15), sophomore Spencer Corwin (29:01.82), first-year sophomore John Whiting (17th, 29:02.31), and first-year sophomore Joe Mayo (18th, 29:10.82).

A total of 18 runners ran for the Missionaries in the men's race.

Whitman competes next in the Sundodger Invitational, slated for Saturday, Sept. 17, at Lincoln Park in Seattle, Wash.
