Gilbert Sisters Run One-Two at Whit Invite

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- With Emilie Gilbert finishing first and twin sister Katri Gilbert taking second, the Whitman College women's cross country team dominated its season-opening invitational Saturday morning at Ft. Walla Walla Park.
Whitman was first in the team scoring with 20 place points for its top five finishers.
Lewis-Clark State, the only other school entered in the meet, was second with 41 place points.
Emilie Gilbert, a junior, was a decisive winner, finishing the 6,000-meter race in 23:24.89.
Her sister Katri, also a junior, overtook LCSC's Sophie Bush at the finish to place second in 23:47.03. Bush was clocked in 23:49.50.
Erin Campbell, a first-year Whitman runner, was fourth in 24:04.17, beating Lewis-Clark State's Chelsey Leighton by more than 18 seconds.
Sophomore Skye Pauly and senior Mollee Huisinga rounded out Whitman's team score, placing sixth and seventh, respectively, with times of 24:41.59 and 24:42.50.
The next three finishers also wore Whitman uniforms. First-year runner Caitlin Iglehart was eighth in 24:46.56 while seniors Kelly Jensen and Jennifer Farley were ninth and 10th, respectively, in 24:53.14 and 24:53.56.
Two juniors, Shannon McCarty and Lori Mendelsohn, rounded out Whitman's top 10. McCarty was 12th overall in 24:59.83 while Mendelsohn was 15th in 25:32.94.
A total of 21 runners ran for the Missionaries in the women's race.
Whitman competes next in the Sundodger Invitational, slated for Saturday, Sept. 17, at Lincoln Park in Seattle, Wash.
