Burks Fires 80 vs. Panthers in Men's Golf

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Freshman Geoff Burks shot 80 and senior Steve Campbell added an 81, but that wasn't enough to keep Whitman College on a par with Chapman University in a Thursday dual match at the El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel, Calif.

Van Pierce, a Chapman senior, fired a round of 70 to lead the Panthers to a 316 team score for its top four golfers.

Whitman finished at 345 for its top four. Freshman Peter Clark added to the Missionary team score with an 88.

Drew Raher, also a freshman, and junior John Abercrombie both shot 94.

Addison Devore also broke 80 for Chapman, shootig a 78. Chapman is an NCAA Division III independent.

That match will take at the East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, Calif.

Whitman continues its Spring Break trip to California on Friday with a three-way match against California Baptist and Biola.
