Meztli Mariscal Del Toro ’26: Biology Researcher & Dancer
Meztli Mariscal Del Toro ’26 is a Biology-Environmental Studies major from Sayulita, Mexico. Meztli says Whitman College was a place where she could explore all of her different interests while learning more about herself and the things she’s most passionate about.
Meztli’s Whitman Highlights:
As a cabinet member for Unidos, Whitman’s Latine affinity club, Meztli found community while studying far from home. Her favorite memories are from organizing Salsa and Bachata nights to bring campus together for a night of dancing.
Meztli gained hands-on experience through an internship with the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation Freshwater Mussel and Pacific Lamprey Lab. She later conducted undergraduate research at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories, studying thermal stress and metamorphosis in sand dollar larvae.
What’s next? Working as a Biology Lab TA helped Meztli discover how much she enjoys teaching science. After graduation, she hopes to work as a lab tech in a marine biology lab while also exploring opportunities in environmental and biology education for children.
