Kengo Shirokane ’26: From Fastballs to the Career Fast Track

Kengo Shirokane ’26 is an Economics major from Bellevue, Washington. He chose Whitman College because of the supportive community that constantly challenged him to grow. Over the past four years, he’s developed valuable skills and gained professional experience that led to a full-time career opportunity with M.A. Mortenson after graduation.

Kengo’s Whitman Highlights:

• Student-athlete on Whitman’s varsity baseball team

• Senior Admission Intern

Kengo found a strong sense of community through Whitman baseball. Competing as a student-athlete taught him how to perform under pressure, solve problems in real time and contribute to a team.

The critical thinking and communication skills he developed on campus allowed Kengo to thrive as a finance intern at M.A. Mortenson, where he gained real-world experience and built confidence in his ability to succeed in a fast-paced work environment.

What’s next? Kengo has accepted a position as a Field Engineer at M.A. Mortenson Companies, where he will help build data centers for Meta.
