Chase Schubert ’26: Resident Assistant, Volunteer & Science Educator

Chase Schubert ’26 is a Biology major from Mercer Island, Washington. Chase was drawn to Whitman College for the liberal arts experience and spent the last four years exploring every opportunity, including research, study abroad and community outreach. Every experience has prepared him for his next chapter as a Fulbright Scholar.

Chase’s Whitman Highlights:

• Minored in Chemistry and Rhetoric, Writing and Public Discourse

As a Resident Assistant in Lyman House, Chase helped create a fun and supportive environment for first-year students. He also stayed involved in Walla Walla through volunteer work with the Career and Community Engagement Center.

Research was a major part of Chase’s Whitman experience. In his first year, he worked in the Gabriele Varani Lab investigating the physical structures of Dengue RNA. He also conducted independent research in the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on ciguatera poisoning, which later became the foundation of his honors thesis.

Presenting research at multiple conferences led Chase to discover a passion for science education. While studying abroad in Australia, he worked as a teacher’s assistant in Melbourne. During his senior year, he also served as an education outreach intern with United Way of the Blue Mountains.

What’s next? Chase received a Fulbright Teaching Award and will travel to Thailand to work as an English Teaching Assistant, where he’s excited to build meaningful connections and immerse himself in a new community and culture.
