Sophomore Summit: Forge Your Future

Sophomore Summit is a new program being piloted for the 2018-2019 school year. Sophomores are invited to return to campus on Friday, January 11th. The summit will launch with dinner and keynote on Friday night. We'll be offering a range of exciting workshops all day Saturday, and conclude with a dinner at the Marriott Courtyard in the evening.

The Sophomore Summit is a unique sophomore-only experience that will allow participating students to:

  • Critically examine your leadership identity
  • Develop the skills of narrating your academic life and academic choices
  • Use your varied experiences to inform decision-making about your future
  • Interact and spend time with your sophomore classmates
  • Increase your connections within the Walla Walla community

This program is sponsored by the Student Activities Office and the Student Engagement Center.

Friday, January 11th

3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m Participant check-in at Reid to receive Summit materials 
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m Opening Dinner with Keynote by Danielle Garbe Reser '97, CEO of the Sherwood Trust

Saturday, January 12th

8:45 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast on your own in Cleveland Commons (meal plan can be used)
9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Breakout Session 1
10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Breakout Sesson 2
12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Lunch on your own in Cleveland Commons (meal plan can be used)
1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Breakout Session 3
2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Group Session: "Building your Why Statement" with Mira Gobel
3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Closing Group Activity
5:00 p.m. Shuttle to Courtyard Marriott for dinner
5:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. Networking, Etiquette Dinner, and Closing
8:00 p.m. Return to campus

Q: Who can participate?
A: Any Sophomore student at Whitman will be eligible to participate in the entire 2019 Sophomore Summit (Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12th)

Q: When do I need to be back on campus?
A: Friday, January 11th, no later than 4 p.m.

Q: When is the last day to register for the summit?
A; Friday, November 30th at midnight

Q: Where will I stay/sleep?
A: You will be able to move into your regular on-campus residence hall room on Friday, Jan. 11th.

Q: Do I have to pay for the summit?
A: This program is FREE for students!

Q: What else do I need to know?
A: After you register, you'll receive an additional, more-detailed form to fill out so we can gether some additional information for planning purposes. Also, there will be an "orientation" meeting for all registrants the week of December 10th-14th.
