Summer 2016 Whitman Internship Grants
This summer, a record number of Whitman students received funding for internships in their areas of interest, from lab work to literary magazines and finance to arts facilitation. Though many pursued internships in or around their hometowns, some traveled as far afield as Thailand, South Africa and Aruba; others headed to Washington, D.C., to work on political campaigns or in legislative offices, or to San Francisco to join nonprofits.
Funding for the more than 100 students who participated in these internships was provided by the Whitman Internship Grant, which enables qualifying first years, sophomores and juniors to collect a paycheck from Whitman for otherwise unpaid summer work experience. Students must secure their internships prior to applying for funding, and are expected to work about 20 hours per week.
